History of Mangalore
The city of Mangalore has a well-recorded history. It is believed that this region has been ruled by many rulers over the past few centuries and among them, the most famous emperors were the Kadambas and Vira Hariharanya II.
Initially, the Kadamba dynasty ruled over the city from the 2nd century to the 6th century. Later, it was taken under the control of the Alupa dynasty, and till the 14th century, the Alupas remained in power.
After a few years, the Portuguese conquered Mangalore and made some advancements to it. However, they lost it to Hyder Ali, who served as the sultan of the kingdom of Mysore. Then, the Britishers came into power and it was under their administration until 1947 when the country got its independence from the British Raj.
In the year 1956, when Mangalore was finally merged and unified with the Mysore state, the city started flourishing slowly and steadily. With time, it became a trading center and today, this place is renowned for the import and export of international trade all over the world.
